Say ‘Yes’ to Eco Friendly Wedding Invitations

Wow, its been a year already! Time flies!

Wedding preparations are full of fun, but they are tiring as well. These moments give you memories for a lifetime. Our weddings are incomplete without the presence of near and dear ones, who are sometimes more excited for your big day than you are. It starts with the stunning wedding invitations, filled with the warmth of your love and excitement. It’s an official announcement of your wedding date and ceremonies to be held.

A traditional card with some sweets and gifts can cheer up everyone’s mood, but why not put some flavor into your wedding with custom invites that reflects your personality? What if your wedding date is just a few weeks away? How to send these invitations? How to reach your uncle and aunt or your best friend living far away from you, in Canada, US or India in just one click? Why not spare some time, energy and money for your wedding shopping, instead of worrying about the invitations?

When my wedding date was fixed, I decided to design my own wedding card. It was an Indian Punjabi style wedding, my card theme and colour choice were also inspired from the traditional Punjabi weddings. As my husband is fond of minimalism and I have a passion for colours, I thought of making it a blend of traditional but modern design with a minimalist approach. I wanted it to reflect both our personalities, minimalist yet cheerful.

The color ‘red’, carried by a married Indian woman, in the form of sindoor, bindi, bangles or by wearing red clothes, is considered to be one of the most auspicious colors for Indian weddings. The ‘circle’ with no defined beginning and ending, is symbolic of never-ending true love. The red circle completes the illustration by highlighting the wedding couple in their wedding attire. Another thing that completes the traditional wedding look of a bride in her red “lehnga” is gold jewellery, considered a blessing of her family. The ‘Golden Yellow’ letters are used as a symbol of golden moments, making the card more special for the occasion.

However things are not as easy as they look, it took me a week to plan and finalize the card design along with everything else going on for the wedding preparations. I used different mediums like acrylic and oils, but they didn’t win me over. Finally, I decided to make an electronic card by using illustration. Interestingly, I combined two different pictures of us into one, it was fun and something new for me. The challenging part was that my husband was my “client”, and it’s difficult to impress him.

Finally, when he said yes, it was time to announce the date of my wedding day. We post it on Instagram, Facebook, WhatApp, and also sent it personally to our friends. Everyone loved the card and the concept. We got tons of wishes for the wedding and appreciations for the card design. We wanted to do something creative on our wedding, and this made our wedding memorable for us..

An e-card is an environmentally friendly way to celebrate your day as it saves the paper for card printing, which in turn can save you money. It saves your time as well, you don’t need to go to the printers to order one as its just a simple message or click away.

They are more fun and creative in my opinion, as they can be customized the way you want. So, take one step further and order an e-card for your wedding ceremony. Whether, its you or your friends engagement, haldi, bangles or wedding ceremony. It is an interesting option, as it can be customized on a whole other level.

Let your invitation glow with your love and emotions!!!

Fall in love with Fall in Canada!!

As Canada has opened its doors for the citizens of any country from around the world, people are excited to live in this beautiful country. Whether you are about to move to Canada, or you are just planning for it in the future, you must be excited to know the things which makes people fall in love with this country. Here is the first reason.

Interestingly, fall in Canada lasts for a few months starting from September till the end of November, but its peak time is just for two weeks and its the best time to explore the outside world before winters. For most Canadians, it is the best time of the year to lost in nature and enjoy its beautiful colors. If you are looking to capture some nature’s beauty with your camera, it is the best time to do so. You will find only Pine, Cedar, and few other evergreen trees who don’t change their color while it is interesting to see transformation of tree leaves like Maple into stunning shades which makes the whole landscape look fabulous with their rich color contrast. The best thing is you don’t need to go far from your place to see it as there are conservation areas or parks in almost every city where you can enjoy this.

This fall, we went to Claireville Conservation Area during its peak season. It is a protected area where you will mostly find deciduous trees that changes their colors into different shades of Yellow, Orange or Red. Tall trees canopies of different colors seem to hug each other, celebrating nature. When sunlight falls through yellow leaves on fallen leaves on the ground, it feels like everything around you has turned golden, making the whole place look more livelier and beautiful. There are dedicated trails for visitors with the freedom to explore the area without any restriction. The site has a river, wetland areas or marshy lands, grasslands as well as other areas where you can eat fresh fruits when you feel hungry. As you have to walk a lot to explore the whole place you must have ample time, good shoes for walking and something to eat. Its a good picnic spot for nature lovers.

We got a chance to explore fall in Muskoka, Ontario, known for its beautiful landscape. We had a long drive from Brampton to Muskoka where we had planned to enjoy other activities like stargazing or watching northern lights at night, but we could not make it due to bad weather. It was an exciting journey where we had the chance to see village life and old Canadian houses architecture on our way. It was a relief from hustle life in cities with no noise pollution. Another interesting thing about our journey was that we found lakes almost every few miles. As it is a tourist place, you can enjoy lots of activities but one day is not enough, so book your accommodation advance during peak season as it is difficult to arrange such things on time.

Do you also like fall season? I hope you are planning to explore a new place in next fall. so tell us in the comment section which is your favourite season in your country and which are the places you had explored during that time? or any other plans?

Back in 2017, when I moved to Chandigarh from Amritsar after completing my graduation, I created by first wall painting on a white washed wall surface. Before I moved to this place, i had never focused on this aspect due to my study but this place had some sort of energy and positivity which helped me to develop my artistic personality along with my architecture profession. This artwork was a wonderful experience for me, I still feel connected with that place as i left my impression there in the form of my artwork.

Now, I encourage you to explore your artistic side and pick up your brushes and your favourate colors. I will take you through a journey where you can read and learn the in-depth process of making a painting on a wall with a budget-friendly Step by Step Guide.

In this post, you will learn about how to set up a wall surface by planning your painting from scrath to final execution for a photo-realistic wall artwork and the tools required to do the same.

So, let’s start our first session with full enthusiam, energy and inspiration. Let’s create on imprint at your favourite place by using that wall as a Canvas. Below are well elaborated as well as to the point steps to create your dream artwork.

1. Base- Setting Up the Wall Surface for Painting

Before you begin with your painting, it is very important to establish an appropriate wall surface for the painting and then preparing that surface properly for more fine painting. You need to keep the following things in your mind before you begin.

Non- Porous Surface: The Surface should be smooth, non-porous. It means it should not absorb too much water or any other medium. When a surface is porous it absorbs more paint and over a certain period of time it may develop flakes and starts to peel.

Primer: It is very important to apply primer on wall surface by using Primer or Acrylic Gesso. It will act as a barrier between the wall surface and painting. This will affect the overall quality and appearance of the painting.

Sanding and Cleaning: Sanding is done on the surface of a wall to make the surface smooth and clean so as to acquire a fine painting.

  1. Art Supplies

After preparing the surface and choosing your painting theme, you need to decide your ast supplies accordingly. It will depend upon the location of your painting that whether its an external wall surface exposed to sun, wind and rain or whether it is an internal wall surface.

Arcylic Paints vs. any other medium:  Let’s talk about painting mediums available in the market. I recommend, acrylic paints over any other medium as they have all the qualities we need for a long lasting painting on a wall. You can also use markers to define the painting edges. Let’s discuss few pros and cons of using Acrylic Paints:

Pros: Affordable, more durable, easy to use (water soluble), less Toxic, dry fast, flexible and easy to blend.

Cons: Poor quality acrylics may fade/ look dull with time. As they dry fast, you need to work very quickly. If more layers are applied it may peel off.

  1. Art Brushes and Tools

Now, after choosing your

But you don’t need to buy all of them.

I recommend you to buy the following Brushes:

Round Brush – No. 1
Round Brush – No. 8
Flat Brush – No. 1 (for fine details)
Flat Brush – No. 6
Flat Brush -No. 12 (For underpainting or where you need to paint a larger area).

(I use mostly Faber Castell brushes as they are long lasting and give results as well)

I will discuss with you a step by step demonstration of how to make wall art in the upcoming post.

Till then stay tuned!!!!
